American President Barack Obama recently met with Mexican President Felipe Calderon to discuss climate and energy issues. The talks came after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and aimed to seek a moratorium on oil exploration and new production near the western part of the Gulf of Mexico, where the US and Mexico share a maritime border.

Additionally, Presidents Calderon and Obama agreed to create a Cross-Border Electricity Task Force that will promote renewable energy in the region and create domestic economical growth for the two countries.

Finally, commitments were reaffirmed by the US and Mexico toward continuing international environmental initiatives at the next United Nations climate summit that is scheduled to take place in Cancun, Mexico, on November 29, 2010.
