Loved our stay at Laguna Suites

Our family just spent a wonderful week at Laguna Suites. The service was outstanding. We were picked up at the airport, and taken to the hotel, where the concierge Maritza, welcomed us. We were given beverages when we arrived, and Maritza took about 15 minutes to tell us what to expect. Our room was nice, but not particularly fancy.

It was very clean, but could be improved by adding a clock-radio, and putting in a refrigerator and microwave. There weren't very many English channels on the TV, but that was OK. It would have been nice to have a 2nd TV in the first room, so adults can watch after kids are in bed, without waking them up from the noise. The restaurant was very good. The food was tasty, service was excellent. We were not on the All Inclusive plan, so we tried to limit our meals in restaurants. Prices were high, but the food was good. The servers were very friendly, spoke English well. The pool was very nice, but a bit chilly. I imagine the water will warm up as the weather warms up. The required sales presentation wasn't bad. We've looked at a number of timesharepresentations through the years, and this was the most professional we've sat through. Guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and spoke English quite well. Go into the presentation knowing it will not be 90 minutes like you're told. Ours took almost 3 hours.

But if you know this in advance, and are expecting it, it's not too bad. We were willing to give them 3 hours of our time in exchange for a free week in Cancun. The other two sister properties are very nice, and are available to Laguna guests. Sunset Lagoon is on the lagoon side, features a number of activities that are great for families. We enjoyed the hot tub on the edge of the lagoon. From Sunset, the water taxi takes you to Royal Sunset Hotel on the ocean side. Great beach, wonderful sand, beautiful blue water. In all, a great week. Thanks, Laguna staff, for all you did.

Nice quiet place on the lagoon side of Cancun

This was our first time in Cancun and we stayed at Laguna Suites using timeshare points from my parents for our honeymoon the busy week between Christmas and New Years. We did not listen to their time share presentation or use many of the amenities on the property but the experience we did have was a good one. This is not a five star hotel but we found it to be very clean, quiet and comfortable.

There is an open air lobby area followed by a nice size pool with a sufficient number of lounge chairs with a swim up bar and then an open air restaurant behind that. This was flanked on either side by the hotel rooms and the spa was at the end of one of the buildings. We didn't use the pool, bar or spa, but did have a nice dinner there on New Years Eve. The food was very tasty, but we found even better tasting food at similar prices at other restaurants in town. Since this small hotel is located on the lagoon side of Cancun (no water view) it was very quiet during the week but be prepared for mosquitoes. At least we did see a truck go by one evening spraying for them. The staff was friendly enough but we did have a bit of a miscommunication with the front desk on how to pay for one dinner at the hotel without having to pay for three days worth of meals.

The concierge seemed helpful at first but later we found other sister hotel properties were able to give us better pricing on the excursions we wanted to do and did not require half of the payment to be paid up front in cash. Also he was supposed to arrange our shuttle transportation back to the airport but somehow that was mixed up and we were scrambling at the last minute to get to the airport since we had no receipt to prove that we had already paid him for the trip back to the airport (which was not complimentary if you did not listen to their time share presentation). Overall that experience just ended up feeling a bit shady for us. The bedroom was an average size with a nice large king sized bed. Some other reviews have complained about how hard the beds are but we slept VERY comfortably.

I didn't figure out how to use the AC until the last morning but the temperature it was set on was still comfortable for sleeping at night (which is about the only hours we were actually in the room or on the property). The shower stall (no tub) was a nice size but a few of the holes were clogged so the water sprayed all over the bathroom. We just moved the toilet paper out of the way and dealt with it as is. One light bulb in the bedroom was burnt out but we didn't mention it to the staff because it didn't really affect us. The sitting room area was a nice size with a TV, pull out couch, table/chairs, mini-fridge, coffee pot, microwave and small balcony overlooking the pool. The shuttle between properties was really the selling point on staying at this place since it's off the beaten path however we easily got taxis to and from the property as well.

One of their properties has a marina where many of the excursions departed from and their big property on the ocean side seemed very nice. We had a tasty buffet lunch there at a reasonable price. If you are looking for a small, quiet place to stay and are willing to deal with shuttle buses to get to town (or pay for taxis) this is a nice spot to consider.

Relaxation - like being at home, but much better

Laguna Suites is a small hotel. I think 40 or so rooms -- so you really get individual, personal services from all the staff. The meals were very good -- service -- you couldn't ask for anything better. I was traveling with a friend and her family. The children ranged in ages (3) months to (16) years old. The grown-ups from (30 - 66). We all felt we were in a family setting.

Laguna Suite's personnel made us feel like family. You may not have the ocean, but you have so much more, here (as far as I'm concerned). I would go back in a minute!
